New requirements for Cisco Channel Partners, focus on Internet of Things, Application Centric Infrastructure and InterCloud

Cisco announcing changes to Cisco Channel Partner Program

Last month our Business Manager Cisco, Herman Goedman, joined the Cisco Partner Summit in Las Vegas, a global event Cisco organizes for its partners on an annual basis. During this event Cisco made a number of major announcements on both new technologies and solutions and the new partner program that will be launched. We would like to inform you about the most important topics that have been discussed.

In addition to sharing important news Cisco handed over awards to a number of Learning Partners. We are proud to have received the Cisco Top Quality Award and the Cisco Collaboration Award for the EMEAR region.

Internet of Things (IoT)

A development Cisco focuses on is the Internet of Things: the network of physical objects accessed through the Internet. These objects contain embedded technology to interact with internal states or the external environment. In other words, when objects can sense and communicate, it changes how and where decisions are made, and who makes them. Cisco states only 1% of everything in the world is currently connected.

Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)

A new technology breakthrough named Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) will result in more intelligent networks that will no longer be configured by component but centrally and based on the demand of the applications. This development will drastically change the maintenance and the design of IT infrastructures.

InterCloud

With the InterCloud Cisco want to connect private and public clouds. Cisco partners can use this InterCloud to offer their customers a flexible infrastructure.

A new Channel Program for Cisco partners

All these new developments will be reflected in the Cisco Channel Partner Program.

  • Cisco will expect all partners to have Hybrid IT competencies within their organization. This means that Cisco Gold and Premier partners should not only let the design, implementation and maintenance of infrastructures be part of their offerings but have focus on Cloud and Managed Services as well.
  • All Gold partners should work on sales skills within their organization to be able to discuss business advantages with their customers rather than the IT infrastructures.
  • The Silver status will be removed from the Cisco Channel Partner Program completely and Cisco will introduce master specializations that will enable partners to fully specialize within a particular technology.
  • Cisco will change the architectures. The Borderless Networks architecture will be removed and the Security, Enterprise Networks and IPNG architectures will be introduced.
