On February 3rd 2011, the IPv4 address pool came to an end. High time for IPv6. In this course IPv6 will reveal all its details. This course is intended for network professionals with good IPv4 knowledge.

  • Learn what the benefits are of IPv6 and how your network will benefit from IPv6.
  • Learn how IPv6 functions and how it differs from IPv4.
  • Learn the details of the IPv6 headers and extension headers.
  • Take a good look at all the different addresses and their purposes.
  • Analyse how IPv6 works, using ICMP messages.
  • Which adaptations are made to the routing protocols to support IPv6?
  • See how your complete network can be configured automatically and how this interacts with DHCP.
  • DNS needed to be extended to support IPv6 addresses. What records were added and for what purposes?
  • IPv6 has a better support for security and mobile IP: how is it implemented?
  • Multicasting will be more important than in IPv4.
  • What adaptations need to be made to lower and higher layer protocols?
  • What transition methods will be used, how do they function and what are the advantages and disadvantages of these methods?
  • Labs: configure IPv6 on hosts and routers, configure tunnels between hosts and between routers. Enable an IPv6 network.
